Dan Evans’ career highlights

1992 – left management position in industry to pursue a career in music / many venues & events that year, including Bedworth Folk Festival / first of many live broadcasts with several BBC & independent radio stations including BBC Radio Bedfordshire, BBC Three Counties Radio, BBC Radio Northampton & BBC Essex

1993 – second of three concerts on level 5 stage of The Barbican Arts Centre London / The Mean Fiddler Acoustic Stage London / sell-out concert at Middlesbrough Folk Club / release of ‘Guardian Spirit’, Dan’s first CD album with launch at Grahams Hifi Studios, London / coaching British singer Tony Di Bart, who promptly rose to number one in the UK pop charts with his song The Real Thing

1994 – concert in Bunjies Folk Cellar London – a tiny but important venue, as previous artists include Al Stewart, Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Cat Stevens, David Bowie, Rod Stewart & Phil Collins

1995 – recorded ‘More So’, a jazz album for Andy Crowdy in my home studio, featuring multi award-winning Alan Barnes

1996 – first of many concerts for Ealing Guitar Society London / concert in Hay On Wye Wales

1997 – first US tour with Roger Nicholson to Boston MS and Blue Mountain Lake NY / later solo tour to northern states, including Mountain Dulcimer Festival Albany NY & concert at Brandon VT

1998 – first of two appearances at Winchester Folk Festival / in later years other UK folk festivals include Oxford and The Straw Bear Whittlesea

1999 – first of two tours to Florida USA, including a standing ovation at a Eustis Woman’s Club / subsequent tour included Mount Dora Dulcimer Festival & Orlando Folk Festival

2000 – first of several tours to Kentucky, including Kentucky Music Week & Kentucky Music Weekend festivals (met & worked with Prof. David Schnaufer & Jean Ritchie) and live performance on Fox FM TV / standing ovation at Heartland Dulcimer Festival Elizabethtown / later to return to Kentucky Music Week four more times

2001 – SAMFest (Summer Acoustic Music Festival) Houston Texas with record CD sales

2002 – Tullamore Festival Ireland – midnight concert in remote Charleville Castle / release of ‘Autumn Dance’, Dan’s third CD album, completing the trilogy

2003 – first of four appearances at the Dulcimer Chautauqua On The Wabash dulcimer festival New Harmony Indiana / Cork Dulcimer Festival Ireland

2007 – one of many appearances for UK’s Nonsuch Dulcimer Club at Launde Abbey Leicestershire

2008 – duo concert as ‘Eclipse’ with Sylvia Seaton (violin) St Matthew’s Church Wigmore Kent / previous concerts as Eclipse include Waltham Abbey Folk Club & Truro Folk Club Cornwall

2011 – performed requiem on dulcimer at family funeral – and again in 2022 / concert at the Artrix Arts Centre Redditch 

2012 – midnight concert in rural Chateau De Segrais near Le Mans France

2014 – recording duets with Stephen Seiffert at multi award-wining Thomm Jutz studio Nashville Tennessee

2015 – representing England at the Dulcimer World Congress Malvern / concert at the Festival Of The Black Mountains Talgarth Wales / launch of ‘Au Vieux Moulin’ album with record CD sales

2016 – end of an era: last of countless weekend music courses at UK adult education centres – finally at Farncombe Centre Cotswolds – especially ‘Everyone Can Sing’, a transformative voice workshop which attracted over 6,000 students from all over Europe

2018 – solo concert at the Judy Turner Hall in Nashville Tennessee, followed by improvisations with Stephen Seiffert / interview & front cover in international Dulcimer Players News / previous centrefold interview & regular contributor to magazine

2020 & 2021 Covid pandemic – cancellation of US tour to Nashville TN & Black Mountain Music Festival North Carolina  

2021 (outdoors and socially-distanced) – one of several concerts at the Stratford Play House Stratford On Avon – this one a sell-out with Rebecca Hallworth (vocals) / previously at venue ‘3 Guitars’ concert with Martin Vishnick PhD (classical guitar) & Stefanos Tsourelis (Oud & jazz guitar), awarded Guitarist Of The Year

2022 – concert at The Arches Theatre Olney / concert at Old Bakery Studios Truro Cornwall

2023 – trio concert with Rebecca Hallworth (vocals) & Andy Crowdy (bass) at York House Stony Stratford / previous trio concert sell-out in Lavendon – both in Milton Keynes

2024 – cancellation of several summer concerts & events due to injury to left arm / release of ‘A Waltz Through The Woods’, Dan’s sixth CD album

2025 tbc – concert at Van Mildert College The University Of Durham / Van Mildert College private event in Windsor Castle / previously other university shows include Trevelyan College Durham University, Robinson College Cambridge University and Rewley House Oxford University
