poem: grace

poem: grace

grace ~ reflections of a life with music

if you want to reach the summit,

you have to climb the mountain – there are no short-cuts

if you want to walk with giants

you’ll need to take giant steps in commitment and sacrifice

if you seek success through fame or material gain

then you’ll never have enough

but if your work touches others

you’ll be rewarded with riches that can’t be bought

go about your business with honesty and integrity

and wherever possible, be fair and kind

kindness, like respect, is often reciprocated

respect the work of others but don’t argue with fools

they’ll delight in dragging you down

and where they are isn’t where you want to be

be curious and appreciate the works of the masters

humility is endearing and necessary for growth

there’s a fine line between confidence and arrogance

make sure you know where that line sits for you

take pride in your efforts and achievements

but be realistic about your limitations

you may sometimes be disrespected

but those that diss’ you can’t take away your self-respect

you can’t change the world around you

but you can change the world you move in

if all else fails, let your mantra be grace
