12 days of film

Before digital cameras Dan used a wide variety of negative, B&W and slide films, depending upon the assignment.  The the images shown here however, were mostly taken on Kodak Ektachrome, which was Dan’s slide film of choice for travel photography.  Kodak gifted dozens of rolls of Ektachrome to Dan every year, as part of their support package to his training courses.  These photographs will be 20-40 years old, as they would have been captured between the early 1980’s and 2005.

Just as Dan’s digital images have been widely used and published, some of his film images have also been used for a variety of commercial purposes, most notably in the international PIC (People In Camera) magazine New York, as part of an article Dan wrote on photographic composition for them.

Here you will find film photographs of the English Lake District, The Isle of Mull in Scotland, Kenya, Morocco, Tuscany in Italy and Istanbul in Turkey.  They are all the Copyright of Dan Evans and may not be used without permission.

11_ICM

ICM (Intentional Camera Movement) is the technique of moving the camera (or zooming the lens) during the exposure.  It can create an abstract, artistic effect of blending colours.

Here you can see ICM photographs of woodland, church interiors, Christmas trees and a boardwalk in the Lake District.

07_canals & narrowboats

Narrowboats on the canals of England were the main means of transporting goods during the industrial revolution.  Today they are enjoyed for the relaxed lifestyle and beautiful scenery.   Here you will see images of canals, narrowboats and locks at Stoke Bruerne, Cosgrove and the Oxford canal.

08_fashion & portraiture

Portraiture was a significant part of Dan’s commercial work, so it’s only natural for him to continue to photograph models.  Here you will find fashion and beauty photography of models both in the studio and in natural settings.

There are also catwalks from the London Fashion Weekend, as part of London Fashion Week, including dresses by designer Alice Temperley.  Dan was invited to these events by Canon UK.

09_flowers

Having taught flower photography at Leicester University Botanic Gardens and having frequently photographed gardens as part of his commercial work, the colour and beauty of wild and garden flowers are still a natural subject for Dan’s photography.  Here you will find photographs of blue anemones, sunflowers, poppies, snowdrops, bluebells, snakes-head fritillaries, lupins, crocuses, knapweed, daisies, harebells, orchids and (rare) Jacob’s Ladder.
